Yes, it is the 4th of July and today has been one of those mixed days. It started off with a wonderful parade in our little town. Just your typical small town America parade with floats, political candidates, city officials, fire trucks, kids riding decorated bikes, riding clubs on their horses and more. The best part was the beginning of the parade with the honor guard consisting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts which meant that my husband and two younger sons were all in the parade. It brought tears to my eyes to look up and down the street and see people lining all of Main Street wearing their patriotic clothes and carrying Old Glory in various sizes. It was one of those moments when I really had to stop and thank God for allowing us to move to this area and live this lifestyle that we had dreamed and talked about for so long. Get this! NEXT weekend there is another parade because it is the start of our rodeo.....so we get to do it again next weekend. I can't wait! There was a bit of a damper on things today though. Don't get me wrong.......nothing can take away from our thankfulness to live in this country. However, my husband and third son had been up all night because my son's horse was sick. He has never gotten sick in ANY way and never colicked before.....EVER! So it caught us off guard! The vet had been out the evening before and treated him and left us with some antibiotics, pain killer and other medicines. However, after we saw no improvement after giving him additional pain killers, the vet told us to load him up and bring him down to her ranch. So we have spent the day on pins and needles. Around 11:15 she called and told us that the prognosis was grim so we drove out there again...after the parade...and spent a few hours with him....while she did some more procedures. We finally went home when she had him hooked up to IV's and just about 30 minutes ago, she called saying she THINKS he may have turned the corner and we may have some reason to hope. I can't believe how emotional this type of situation is. Poor son......has had a very rough day......

Isn't it funny...how even when you try to slow down and eliminate unnecessary things from your life, somehow the empty spaces keep getting filled in. I guess that's why you have to have some room in your life, some margin so to speak, so that when the unexpected happens, there is room in your life to deal with it. The past few months have been very full! But God is always good! I've taken some time off blogging and doing the radio shows the past couple of weeks. I guess you could say I just needed a break. I was able to go to California and spend some time with my second son who lives, works and studies there. It was so great to just have time to visit, sightsee and even fall asleep on the Santa Monica beach close to the pier. I loved every minute of "hanging out".....and it is such a blessing to see him making good choices and living for the Lord. I LOVED going to church with him at Grace Community Church on Sunday where John MacArthur is pastor. Talk about the next best thing to being in heaven!!! Wow! I do have to admit my spirit is tired....and I'm definitely trusting and resting in God's plan and timing for everything rather than trying to figure it all out....which is impossible anyway. My grandmother just had a stroke and is currently in the hospital and I feel like I need to get out there soon. Jordan is getting ready to do a 2 week internship in Western Kansas working on a ranch and of course, it feels like school just ended and yet, it is going to start up again before we know it. We are waiting until after Labor Day to start but we may end up waiting just a bit later since we are doing some school through the summer. I'm excited about a long weekend and about celebrating our country's birthday. I am so thankful to live in America and I pray God's blessing on our country and his will in the upcoming election. All the guys are in the 4th of July parade down in town...and I'll be dressed up like a person from the 1880's as part of the historical societies part in the celebration. Then, we will see gorgeous fireworks in front of one of our 14'er mountains...which is an awesome sight. May God give you a wonderful 4th of July holiday and don't forget to spend some time praying for our leaders and for our country. Faith and Courage, Lori
